Revamped Personas

Personas — the animated avatar representation of you during FaceTime and Spatial Personas sessions — were one of the more criticised early features of Vision Pro. The first-generation Personas looked noticeably uncanny to most users, which limited how often people actually used them in professional contexts.

visionOS 26 ships a new Persona generation system. It captures significantly more facial geometry detail during the initial scan, and the real-time rendering pipeline has been rewritten to handle hair, skin texture, and micro-expressions more accurately. Apple demoed this at WWDC using side-by-side comparisons, and the improvement is substantial.

The practical effect: Spatial Personas in visionOS 26 are good enough for most professional video calls, which they weren’t before. Whether this actually changes how people use FaceTime in Vision Pro will depend on adoption — you need both parties on visionOS 26 devices for the new Personas to render.

Vehicle Motion Cues

This feature is ported from iOS 17.4 but adapted for the full immersive environment of Vision Pro. When visionOS detects that you’re in a moving vehicle, it overlays subtle animated dots at the edge of your visual field that mirror the vehicle’s real-world motion — the same technique used to reduce motion sickness by synchronising visual and vestibular signals.

It matters because one of the most promising use cases for Vision Pro is productive work during commutes and travel. Motion sickness has been a blocker for some users when wearing Vision Pro in a car or train, particularly during cornering or acceleration. Vehicle motion cues address this directly, and Apple has apparently validated the approach with human factors research prior to launch.

The feature activates automatically when motion is detected and can be tuned in accessibility settings.

Safari Spatial Browsing

Safari on visionOS has always been a flat window — a browser rendered in 2D, placed in your space. visionOS 26 introduces a new spatial browsing mode that renders web content as large spatial panels with depth and layering.

Web pages in spatial browsing mode can use a new set of CSS media queries (spatial-mode: flat vs spatial-mode: spatial) to provide layout hints, but Safari handles the spatial rendering automatically even for standard pages. Images expand to fill the depth plane, navigation is handled via eye and hand gesture, and reading view integrates directly with the spatial layer.

This is the first time Safari has genuinely felt native to Vision Pro rather than ported from macOS.

Spatial Accessories Framework

visionOS 26 ships a new Spatial Accessories framework that provides a standardised API for connecting third-party hardware to Vision Pro — input devices, haptics, sensors — with accessory certification handled via a Made for Spatial Computing programme similar to MFi on iOS.
